Karras
Greek gastronomy on our plates
A taste for the traditional. The fact that many Belgians today appreciate Greek specialities such as tarama, tzaziki, stuffed vine-leaves, feta cheese or mezze is certainly due to Karras. The company started business on Belgium's market squares the 1970s where Dimitrios and Ioanna Carras, who are of Greek origin, sold traditional products from their home country. After 15 years of activity, they decided to promote Greek products on a wider scale through supermarket chains and to introduce them on an equal footing with other foreign food. They launched into production and processing for the retail market.
Tradition and quality upheld. Today, Karras is a leader on the Belgian market with a turnover of 3 million euros. Its customers include most of Belgium's major distribution chains (Carrefour, Champion, Intermarché, Colruyt).
The range of ready-made dishes is marketed under the Karras brand or under the chain's own label. 10% of its production is exported to the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France. Although successful, Karras has not overlooked quality and maintains respect for the delicious original recipes, the selection of the best ingredients directly imported from Greece and freshness due to very short manufacturing deadlines.
Why our region?
Perfectly integrated into the region, the company's founders decided to stay there. And Igretec offered them a site adapted to their needs to build their Fleurus production unit.
